Rooted in Knowledge: Environmental Engineering Students Explore the Mangrove Ecosystem at Tahura Ngurah Rai University General

`

students of the Environmental Engineering Study Program at Udayana University carried out a field visit to the mangrove ecosystem area at Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park (Tahura), Bali. This visit was part of a field-based learning activity aimed at exposing students to real-world environmental issues, particularly those related to coastal resource management.

Accompanied by faculty members and Tahura park managers, the students observed the condition of the mangrove forest, studied its ecological functions, and explored challenges faced in managing coastal areas. Issues such as land conversion, pollution, and human-induced pressures on the mangrove ecosystem were among the key concerns discussed during the visit.

This field trip allowed students to connect classroom theory with on-site realities while fostering awareness of the importance of conserving coastal environments."We hope students can understand the importance of protecting mangrove ecosystems—not only from an ecological perspective, but also in terms of social and economic value," said one of the supervising lecturers. The activity also served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and conservation area managers in promoting applied and context-based environmental education.
